Vita
Robert Herrmann grew up as one of three children in a family of musicians in Leipzig. Surrounded by music, he started playing the piano at the age of five. Wanting to become an orchestral musician, he began taking trumpet lessons when he was ten.
At the age of 14, an incredibly new world opened up to him when he first listened to jazz. He visited a grammar school with creative/artistic focus, where he founded a quartet performing jazz and music by Astor Piazzolla.
After leaving school he studied jazz piano with New York jazz pianist Richie Beirach at the University of Music and Theatre »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« Leipzig.
A sensitive and versatile pianist, he has has since been engaged in a variety of projects and activities.
International concert tours, such as with Canadian singer Chloe Charles, have taken him to England, Scotland, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Canada, Germany, the Czech Republic and Argentina.
In 2012, he participated in “generations - International Jazz meeting” in Frauenfeld / Switzerland.
Since 2011, he has worked as répétiteur for classical ballet and modern dance at the “Palucca University for Dance” in Dresden.
He has been teaching piano, ensemble performances and singing repetition at the “Johann Sebastian Bach” Music School in Leipzig since 2000.
In 2005, he co-founded the Leipzig jazz club “Horns Erben”. He has put a great deal of enthusiasm into the club, for whose cultural programme he is responsible. With around 100 events per year “Horns Erben”, whose reconstructed 1920s glass façade is listed as historical monument, is an integral part of Leipzig's independent arts scene.
